چکیده

Recombinant human interleukin-1 (IL-I) ac and , were found to activate a latent cytosolic form of the transcription factor NFKB in rat C6 glioma. IL-if? was 10 times more potent than IL-1 a for this activity and both were inhibited by the IL-1 receptor antagonist. The activation was detectable from 20 min and remained sustained for up to 24 h. The electrophoretic mobility of the activated complex was shown to be different from that of the corresponding complexes in another IL-I-responsive cell line,

Ceramide Activates NFkB by Inducing the Processing of p105*

The role of ceramide as a second messenger in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-mediated signal transduction has been much debated. It is supported by recent reports describing an expanding number of potential targets for this lipid, but is opposed by those describing how ceramide is not necessary for many TNF-mediated cellular events. In this paper, we directly compare the effects of the cell-permea...

Nuclear Factor-kB Contributes to Excitotoxin-Induced Apoptosis in Rat Striatum

Excitotoxin-induced destruction of striatal neurons, proposed as a model of Huntington’s disease, involves a process having the biochemical stigmata of apoptosis. Recent studies suggested that transcription factor nuclear factor (NF)-kB may be involved in excitotoxicity. To further analyze the contribution of NFkB to excitotoxic neuronal death in vivo, changes in binding activities of NFkB and ...

rPbPga1 from Paracoccidioides brasiliensis Activates Mast Cells and Macrophages via NFkB

BACKGROUND The fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is the leading etiological agent of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), a systemic granulomatous disease that typically affects the lungs. Cell wall components of P. brasiliensis interact with host cells and influence the pathogenesis of PCM. In yeast, many glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins are important in the initial contact wit...

gcm and pointed synergistically control glial transcription of the Drosophila gene loco

In Drosophila lateral glial cell development is initiated by the transcription factor encoded by glial cells missing. glial cells missing activates downstream transcription factors such as repo and pointed which subsequently control terminal glial differentiation. The gene loco has been identified as a potential target gene of pointed and is involved in terminal glial differentiation. It encode...

The NFkB Inhibitory Peptide, IkBa, Prevents Human Vascular Smooth Muscle Proliferation

Background. Vessel injury results in an inflammatory response characterized by the elaboration of cytokines and growth factors, which ultimately influence vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) growth and contribute to atherogenesis. Nuclear factor-kappa B (NFkB) is a central transcription factor important in mediating stress and inflammatory-induced signals. We hypothesized that strategies aimed a...
